Council Bluffs Man Gets Federal Prison Sentence

Stolen Firearm brings federal prison time.

45 year old Daniel Thomas Ricks of Council Bluffs, Iowa was sentenced to 112 months of imprisonment for possession of a stolen

Chief Judge Robert W. Pratt also sentenced Ricks to three years of supervised release following his imprisonment, and
imposed a $100.00 special assessment for the Crime Victim Fund.

The defendant was returned to the custody of the State of Iowa regarding an undischarged term of imprisonment to which the
defendant was sentenced in state court.

The charge arises from the exercise of an arrest warrant in Council Bluffs at the residence of the defendant by members of the
SouthWest Iowa Narcotics Task Force on August 25, 2009. At the time of the arrest, the defendant was found in possession of a loaded .22 caliber Browning hand gun.

The state drug charges relate to a June 29, 2009 undercover purchase of methamphetamine from the defendant.
The defendant was sentenced on October 5, 2010, state court to not to exceed ten years imprisonment. The sentence in both the federal and state courts were imposed to run
concurrently with each other. There is no parole in the federal system.
