Some Council Bluffs homes that were flooded in 2011 are being torn down.
Piles of rubble are all that remain of some of the homes near 68th Avenue and Gifford Road on the southern edge of town. The City of Council Bluffs has contracted with a private company to tear down 36 flood-damaged homes along Gifford Road and Emil Lane.
All of the homes being demolished sit along the banks of the Missouri River and are not protected by a levy. All of the homes were underwater during the flood of 2011.
