Cost Of Remodeling Downtown

Final block grants to be decided. The dollar requests for the remaining Community Development Block Grant funds targeted for downtown Plattsmouth façade improvements total more than the grant fund has left in it. The final day for obligating the funds is April 15th. The next Plattsmouth City Council meeting is April 15th.

The city had previously requested and received an extension in awarding the CDBG money so there is no option to extend the deadline, said City Administrator Erv Portis. There is about a $76,000 difference between what is left to be awarded in the conditional loan and/or grant program and the total requests as of the last council meeting, he said.

The Cassgram reports Portis encouraged council members to consider several options in deciding criteria for awarding the remaining grant money and send their suggestions to him before next week’s meeting.

The city received word in 2010 about the $335,000 façade improvement grant program but the majority of applications from building owners didn’t start coming in until the downtown sewer separation/streetscape construction was finished and the spring construction season was nearing this year.
