The Huskers’ first game of the season Saturday had fans as usual gathered around Memorial Stadium and tailgating hours before kickoff despite the heat.
For Remi Wiehn, there's nothing better than tailgating with the family before the opener. "I'm really excited. I'm kind of excited about the offense. Hopefully, they can keep the other team's offense off the field. Maybe these guys can just keep on trumping down the field, but really excited."
Christina Carter said the heat wasn't about to stop her and her friends. “It's not fun, but it could be worse. It could be raining and it's a Husker game day, so we're not really too worried about the heat as long as we've got lots of bottles of water."
While keeping with their normal traditions, many added safety to the mix to stay hydrated. "We've got a system,” said Matt Haddad. “You alternate one beer, then one water, which right now it's invisible, but one beer, one water, you've got to alternate, so that's pretty much the system.”
