A March trial in a legal fight over the law will be rescheduled.

A federal judge has canceled the March 15 non-jury trial in Omaha. Court records show a new date will be set during a meeting with attorneys later this month.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska and the Mexican
American Legal Defense & Educational Fund, also known as MALDEF, are challenging an ordinance that was approved by Fremont voters in June of 2010.

The groups, whose lawsuits have been combined, argued that
the ban is discriminatory and contrary to what is allowed by state
law.

Faced with expensive legal challenges, the city council suspended the ban until its legality is decided in court.
