Fewer metro families will go to bed hungry for awhile thanks to ConAgra Food's "Shine The Light On Hunger" campaign.
The program wrapped up Wednesday and donations totaled more than 145,000 pounds of food that will go to the Food Bank for the Heartland. There was also a matching grant of $100,000 from ConAgra. All together, the community raised close to 1.5 million meals, topping the goal of 1.1 million.
“We matched donations up to $100,000 that are made at the ice rink,” said ConAgra Food’s Chris Kircher. “Each admission of $5 means three meals for the hungry and we're proud to say this year we contributed $100,000 on top of the $100,000 raised at the ice rink."
This was the sixth annual Shine The Light on Hunger campaign held in the metro.
