Douglas County election officials are in a legal battle after being accused of denying voters their right to cast a ballot in the 2012 election.
Nebraskans For Civic Reform, a nonprofit civic group, has filed a complaint against Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps.
The group alleges voters were asked at certain precincts to provide a voter identification number before receiving a provisional ballot. It claims voters only need to show they are registered and are at the correct precinct to receive a ballot.
A hearing was held Friday at the Secretary of State's Office in Lincoln. A hearing officer will determine if election rules were violated and issue a report to Secretary of State John Gale by the end of February.
