Their message was clear before any words were spoken. Children holding signs saying "Save Walnut Grove." A handful of people addressed the school board on Tuesday night, pleading the elementary school not be closed.
There were many reasons voiced to keep the school alive: it serves as a community center, the great staff and history, and the proximity for many living in the western part of Council Bluffs.
After people spoke in favor of keeping the school, a committee presented their recommendations to the board. One member said that Walnut Grove doesn't meet the standards other schools in the district do.
No decisions were made at Tuesday's meeting. The board may make a decision, to either keep or close Walnut Grove, by mid-May.
