Students at the College of St. Mary are giving back to the community near 72nd and Maple.
It's part of their 17th annual Spirit of Service volunteer drive. More than 29 projects at 23 local non-profit agencies are under way.
The volunteers in Benson are moving native tall grasses from a field for Benson Plant Rescue. The area will become an outdoor classroom for students at Benson High school.
Sophomore Margaret Martens said these projects put a spotlight on the college’s ongoing dedication to the community, “and that's our ultimate goal in general to be educated and do what we can to serve the community. But, you know, that's a few years out. So right now we're able to do that every year, so it's real exciting."
More than 330 volunteers are taking part in projects across the metro this week.
