Clearing the Damaged Trees

When the winds howled, branches snapped and, in some cases, long-standing trees came out of the ground.

The Elkhorn area saw some large trees toppled. No one was hurt but there's a mess to clean up near 216th and West Maple.

In Sarpy County Steve Jeub was dumping some of the leftover tree that fell in his yard and he says he's lucky his house wasn’t damaged by the tree.

“One tree from my property, one from my neighbor's yard, about a 40 foot pine tree that came across his fence into another neighbor's back yard. But all it took down was the gutters."

In south central Omaha, Georgene Russell watched as the wind blew over her 15-year-old cherry tree, a tree that had just recovered from another windstorm.

Russell said, “What happens is the wind goes from the front of the house to the left and then it goes around the corner and when it goes around the corner it's really got some speed on it. It knocked all of the limbs from one whole side of the tree but that all came back it was looking good."

This time Georgene might not be able to save her tree but things could have been worse.
