As some 50,000 Omaha Public School students head back to class Wednesday, a parent and PTA member is questioning the size of his daughter’s kindergarten class.
Edison Elementary near 97th and Blondo is expecting two kindergarten classes with close to 40 students in each room. “Right now we're at 39, which is a concern of course for the first day of school,” said PTA vice president Alex Gates. “The problem is I'm not sure there's really a plan in place to take care of the problem, there's not a light at the end of the tunnel of what's going to happen."
The school district has a plan, but is waiting to see the exact number of students who arrive before activating it. Two subs are already on call so that each classroom has two teachers. The district will then decide where to split the students and where their classrooms will be.
