A Channel 6 News exclusive: A city attorney for two Nebraska communities faced a judge Wednesday not as a defender, but as a defendant. The charge was first-offense drunk driving.
Fifty-two-year-old Roger Johnson is city attorney for Plattsmouth and Louisville. He also represents several public boards in Cass County.
Around midnight on October 28th, Johnson was arrested by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper for drunk driving. The stop occurred near Platteview Road in Sarpy County after Johnson allegedly crossed a lane line.
Johnson tested twice the legal limit for blood alcohol. Because of Johnson's clean record, his attorney is seeking entrance into Sarpy County’s diversion program.
After court, Johnson told Channel 6 News, “Once this happened I believe I took responsibility for my actions. I addressed it with all five public boards I represent. Whatever action, if they take action, I would have to accept.”
Johnson said he’s taking steps to deal with any issues related to drinking. As city attorney, he doesn’t prosecute drunken driving cases.
