If city streets become full of snow and if city officials feel it is necessary, a snow emergency will be issued. "The snow emergency is in fact a parking ban. If we declare a snow emergency, if it's an even number day, vehicles park on the even side of the street an odd day vehicles park on the odd side of he street," said Scott McIntyre from the Omaha Street Maintenance division.

The Omaha Public Works Department is preparing for any amount of snow by getting over 100 pieces of equipment ready to clear the streets. "We have some equipment that needs some last minute repairs. We have some equipment that needs to be switched out over from doing concrete and asphalt work to doing snow plowing, get some spreaders behind us get those on the trucks and ready to go tomorrow. The operation hasn't changed very much in the last couple of years. We've got contractors available to plow residential areas, this is the third season we're doing that," McIntyre said.

There is one big change this year. If you don't comply with the parking requirements during a snow emergency, the city will be more aggressive in writing the 50 dollar tickets or towing vehicles away.
