The alleged scam involved large checks written on closed accounts in an attempt to obtain new or used vehicles. Douglas County Sheriff’s investigator Will Rinn said, “He took advantage of the good trust and faith that dealerships operate on.”
21 year old Chuckie Williamson has been bound over on three counts of theft by deception. Its alleged he was able to drive off with two vehicles, a 2007 pick-up and a 2011 Charger from two dealerships by using phony checks. Both vehicles have been recovered.
Williamson and an accomplice were arrested last week after attempting to use a $16,000 bad check at another dealership in Omaha. The two suspects ran off but were later taken into custody.
Managers of the various dealerships either scammed or were targets of attempted fraud have not returned calls to Channel Six News. The main suspect Williamson declined a jailhouse interview.
