Prosecutors have filed a murder charge against a defendant who's been awaiting trial on lesser charges in the slaying of a Lincoln man.
The charge was brought Wednesday against 24-year-old Miguel Castillo, accused of killing 25-year-old Tyler Schoenrock, whose body was found on a rural road north of Lincoln on December 30th.
Castillo was previously charged with being an accessory to murder. Investigators say Castillo and 20-year-old Adrian Casares took Schoenrock from his Lincoln home and then left him for dead on the road. Autopsy reports confirmed that Schoenrock was shot to death.
Two more charges were filed Wednesday against Casares, accessory to murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He's already been charged with making terroristic threats and use of a firearm.
Both men have pleaded not guilty.
