A mother told Channel Six she feels thankful to be alive after her and her baby were involved in an accident on I-29 near Crescent, Iowa early Wednesday morning. In all five people were involved in the three vehicle accident.

Christina Baer said she was with her baby and other family members driving from South Dakota to Omaha when their minivan broke down. They called a tow truck. As they were outside assessing the situation with the tow truck driver, the unthinkable happened. A pickup went off the road ramming right into the broken down vehicle.

Baer and her 7 month old, Annabella, were outside the minivan when she heard a loud screech and she instantly reacted. "I squeezed her as tight as I could and flew really far, but I got it, I made it."

Baer wasn't injured, but Annabella has some cuts and bruises. Also outside at the time was Baer's brother-in-law, Christopher Zimmerman, and the tow truck driver, Jonathan Garringer. They too went flying. "My brother in law is having surgery on his knee. It's gashed really bad, but it's not broken.

Baer's sister, Joanne Zimmerman, was inside the minivan and broke her back in the impact. Baer still doesn't understand why the truck lost control. She said the driver didn't say much. "He got out of the car asking forty times what happened and are we okay and then he called the ambulance."

For now she's just happy to be at home recovering with her daughter.

The driver of the pickup, Paul Trudeau, of Troy, Missouri has been cited with failure to maintain control.
