Census Numbers Update

Population estimates updated.The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the population of Cass County at 25,351 for July 1st, 2013. That is up 203 from the 2012 estimate.

In the April 2010 census the Cass County population was 25,241. The 2013 estimate compared to the 2010 census is a 0.5% population increase. (The 2000 census population was 24,334.)

The Cassgram reports adjoining counties and their July 1st, 2013 estimates [change from 2012 estimate]

Otoe County- 15,752 [+17 people]

Lancaster County- 297,036 [+3,636]

Saunders County- 20,928 [+109]

Sarpy County- 169,331 [+3,545]

Mills County, Iowa- 14,837 [+20]

---Cass County remains the 12th most populous county in Nebraska, between Adams County (31,610) and Dawson County (24,207).

--- ---The state's five biggest counties were the fastest growing counties. Sarpy County led all counties with at least 1,000 residents with 6.6 percent population growth. Lancaster County ranked second with 4.1 percent growth. Douglas County and Buffalo County both recorded 3.9 percent growth. Hall County ranked fifth with 3.6 percent population growth.

The Census Bureau estimates that 31 of Nebraska's 93 counties added population between 2010 and 2013.
