The headliner of this year’s Bank of the West Celebrates America was announced Wednesday. It’s a group that knows all about the power of love.
If your foot isn’t tapping by now, then you don’t know Huey Lewis and The News. The two-time Grammy award winning group will be the feature at the summer concert and fireworks show which is scheduled for Friday, June 29th at Memorial Park in Omaha.
Opening for Huey Lewis that night will be country-rock band Mockingbird Sun. As always, the concert is free.
Bank of the West is holding a contest on Facebook to allow the public to vote for an up-and-coming band to open the concert. Nominations will be held May 1-15 at facebook.com/BankoftheWest. A public vote will be held June 1-15.
The 22nd annual event will also feature the 6th annual partnership with Food Bank for the Heartland. Concert-goers will be encouraged to make cash donations the night of the concert. For each dollar donation, the Food Bank can provide three meals.
Like last year, the event will be held on the Dodge Street side of Memorial Park. Two large screens will be positions next to the stage.
The National Anthem will get the event started at 6 p.m. The fireworks finale will be at 10 p.m. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend.
