Police throughout the metro have been investigating a spat of thefts in recent weeks involving air conditioners. On Monday, Omaha police finally reported some success. A suspect was arrested after allegedly being caught in the act.
Someone called police at 5:28 a.m. Monday to say two people were on top of the Hope Center for Children at 20th & Burdette. When officers arrived, they found one person on the roof and noticed that several air conditioning units were damaged or dismantled.
The man, identified as 35-year old Bryan Grutel, was booked for burglary and possession of burglary tools. The second person has not been located.
