What began as a carjacking ended with a crash and five arrests early Sunday morning.
A 50-year-old woman told police as she parked her SUV in the lot of her apartment complex near North 72nd Street and Crown Point Avenue in Omaha just before 2 a.m., a group of boys approached and one pulled a gun. He took the woman's cellphone and vehicle keys and the group got in the SUV and drove away.
An officer spotted the SUV near North 42nd Street and Redman Avenue about 10 minutes later and tried to pull it over, but the driver wouldn't stop. The driver lost control and crashed into a light pole at North 36th Street and Belvedere Boulevard where the occupants got out and ran. Two were immediately captured and the other three were apprehended with assistance from a K-9 unit.
Nineteen-year-old Tomas Smith was booked for robbery, use of a weapon to commit a felony and obstruction. Eighteen-year-old Armon Jackson was booked for robbery, use of a weapon and obstruction.
A 16-year-old was booked for robbery, use of a weapon and obstruction, another 16-year-old was booked for obstruction and two juvenile warrants and a 15-year-old was booked for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstruction, robbery and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
