WOWT NBC Omaha is teaming up with the American Red Cross to help make the holidays a little brighter for our troops overseas, with the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign.

The public is asked to make a card or buy an extra this year for a member of the armed forces.

“It just takes a moment to sign a card to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the military community make,” said Red Cross Nebraska/SW Iowa Region Executive Tina Labellarte. “You say thanks, we’ll do the rest.”

Red Cross volunteers will sort and distribute the cards to service members, retirees, veterans, VA Medical Center patients, and residents of the veterans homes in our community, as well as active duty members serving on military installations overseas.

Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors, and let’s give something that means something to our service men and women, veterans and their families around the world in gratitude for their service. Share photos and videos of your card signing efforts or send holiday greeting for troops by using the hashtag #HolidayMail on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine accounts. If you wish, connect with fellow card senders through Facebook.com/redcross and Twitter.com/redcross using #holidaymail.
