A 61-year-old Mills County, Iowa woman died Thursday afternoon when her car slid down her ice and snow covered driveway, knocking her down and rolling over her.

Mills County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Kim Clark said Barbara Glaser was in the car when it got stuck on the steep driveway off 195th Street around 1:40 p.m. Glaser put the vehicle in park, shut it off and got out, but the car started to slide down the driveway and struck Glaser. It knocked her down, hit an embankment and then rolled over on her.

Glaser was pronounced dead at the scene, north of Pacific Junction. She had been an employee at the Douglas County Department of Corrections for 35 years, serving as corrections programs administrator since 1989.

“It was just shocking,” said Director of Corrections Mark Foxall. “It was just tragic and you really can't put into words what Barb meant to the organization, what she meant to the people of Douglas County and the citizens of Omaha."

Foxall said she worked with inmates and never gave up on anybody. "Barb told me once of an individual that came through the Department of Corrections many times over the course of many years and eventually Barb said that one day she stopped coming to jail and the programming, although it was a lot, took hold. This person turned her life around and that was what Barb was about, second chances, third chances if necessary."

"Those who were familiar with Barb and even those who didn't know her very well were affected and some who were profoundly affected, a lot of tears being shed,” said Michael Myers with the County Department of Corrections.
