A 37-year-old California man suspected of acting as a decoy to protect a big shipment of marijuana has been given a year in jail.

Tri Minh Dao was sentenced on Wednesday. He'd pleaded no contest to possessing more than a pound of pot.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Tri Minh Dao and 30-year-old
Natalie Nguyen, both of Westminster, California were following another vehicle too closely and were pulled over last March along
Interstate 80. The trooper suspected they were trying to decoy the
trooper away from the other car, so he alerted other troopers.

The other car was pulled over and more than 75 pounds of marijuana was found.

Nguyen and two Californians in the other car also were convicted
on pot possession charges.
