CWS Alcohol Enforcement

The change in venue for the College World Series was unthinkable just a few years ago but the new location has some fans wondering what other changes may be in store.

Part of baseball's appeal is that it is a game of traditions and that goes for everything surrounding the game as well.

Remember Dingerville? It's gone.

Zesto's? It's moving with the series to downtown Omaha.

What about the pink flamingos and their hooding ceremonies? That still has to be determined.

What about the tailgating? Alcohol is still prohibited in the public parking lots at TD Ameritrade Park but it was that way at Rosenblatt Stadium too and yet, alcohol was all around.

The venue may have changed but Deputy City Attorney Tom Mumgaard says Omaha Police will still follow the same rules as far as alcohol enforcement is concerned. "It is essentially the same situation as you saw at Rosenblatt. If you're not causing a problem with your alcohol you're probably won't get a ticket but it is still illegal."

Illegal but tolerated as long as the person having a drink in the parking lot acts responsibly.

"Enforcement of that law is on a complaint basis or as necessary," said Mumgaard. "That means if you cause a problem somebody will approach you and you may get a ticket."

City officials want to stress that the "parking lot" rules do not extend any farther then the lot.

Omaha Police are taking a much stricter stance for anyone caught with alcohol on the sidewalk or on the street.
