An Omaha woman whose house was burglarized, lost something that can't be replaced, and is asking the thief to bring it back.
Coleen Kelly's house in north-central Omaha was burglarized last week.
Dale Schmitz is her fiance and explains what happened. “Basically all they did was open the door, gave the front door the old heave-ho and busted it right open. They broke the door jam where the door latches and just pushed their way right in,” Schmitz said.
When they got inside the burglars didn't have to go far to find valuables. The entertainment center is right inside the door.
“There was a large LED TV. There was a small home theater system. There was a game console and and an Xbox,” Schmitz said.
One of the oldest things they stole was a VCR. But it wasn't the piece of equipment that was so valuable. It was the video tape that was left inside.
“We'll have no problem replacing all the goods,” Schmitz said. “It's the content of the VCR we're most worried about. It contains the video tape of all of her kids growing up when they were little toddlers on up. They're all in their 20's so that's quite a bit a footage, quite a few years.”
Schmitz is hoping whoever has the VCR and the tape will do the right thing and bring it back.
“Maybe there's a sense of generosity in there somewhere that they could possibly return that tape. They know where she lives. If they could just drop it off in the mailbox, no questions asked. That's all we're really looking for is just to get that tape back,” said Schmitz.
