Attorney General Jon Bruning has issued a consumer alert for Nebraskans regarding scams that come from overseas sources. According to Bruning, they are becoming more sophisticated and Nebraskans should be vigilant.

Bruning said his office received more than 450 fraud-related complaints last year. Most of the complaints involve fake checks or "mystery shopper" job offers.

He says most of these scams are coming from Russia or East Africa.

The AG's office recommends that we need to check our credit reports more frequently because Bruning's office doesn't have the resources to stop offshore scammers.
