A Bellevue brother and sister will be arraigned in district court on charges of neglecting their elderly mother. The 87-year-old was malnourished and living in unsanitary conditions.
Dianna and Edward Novak are both charged with felony abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Back in May, Bellevue Police were called to the house where their mother was living. According to a police spokesperson, officers found her severely malnourished, not clean and suffering from severe bed sores. Her toenails were growing over her toes and it was clear she was not taken care of, said the spokesperson.
She was taken to Midlands hospital.
Police also found 9 cats and 6 kittens in the house.
According to police, Dianna Novak was her legal guardian and had power of attorney at the time. Her mother is no longer under her guardianship.
Edward and Dianna Novak are both free on bond and waived a preliminary hearing set for today. They will now head to district court and will enter a plea on the charges filed against them.
