High school-level English teachers from Brazil are visiting Nebraska to improve their teaching skills.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha says the 32 teachers recently began a six-week professional development course that concludes in February.

The Brazilian Ministry of Education is funding the program, which also aims to immerse the teachers in U.S. language and culture.

The teachers will attend English courses and seminars on teaching methodology. There are also intercultural activities that include visiting the State Capitol and meeting with Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy and Secretary of State John Gale.

The 32 teachers at UNO are among 540 attending similar courses at universities across the United States.
