Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has often been critical of President Obama's economic record, but that won't stop the Republican from hosting the Democratic president during his visit Wednesday.

Branstad announced Tuesday he'd accepted Obama's invitation to the event at Conveyor Engineering and Manufacturing and would cancel his other previously scheduled public appearances. The governor said he would greet Obama at the Eastern Iowa Airport after Air Force One touches down.

Spokesman Tim Albrecht says the governor hopes to hear "some meaningful tax and regulatory proposals from the president" that will help business owners.

He says Branstad has expressed concern about the level of spending and debt verseen by Obama, but also believes "the politics of poison" that often paralyzes Washington doesn't have to occur in Iowa.
