Branstad: Notify Care Centers About Sex Offenders

Gov. Terry Branstad says he'll ask the Legislature to require notification when sex offenders are put in long-term care facilities.

Speaking at his weekly news conference Monday, the governor announced he would propose that residents, staff and the community be notified when a sex offender is committed to a care facility.

Branstad says there are about 50 sex offenders who are now in some sort of care facility. He says his proposal would balance the rights of those offenders to receive care with the rights of other residents to know an offender is living in a center.
