Boys & Girls Clubs Of Omaha Open On Snow Days

Quite a few school districts, including the big ones cancelled classes Wednesday, so what’s a child to do? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Omaha is an option.

It just after noon and many children are heading into the Boys & Girls Club at 26th and Hamilton. Usually they would be in school right now, but with schools closed many thought an inside option would be better. 12-year-old Akily Felici said, “Because it’s too cold out, I don’t want to get frost bite.”

Felici loves coming to the Boys & Girls Club to hang out with her friends. “Gymnastics and make up dances with Sasha and hang out with Candice in the front office.” She’s not the only one. 10-year-old Mykael Metoyer also came to the club this snow day. Her favorite, “It’s fun and I like playing foursquare.”

Every snow day the Boys & Girls Clubs of Omaha open at 8 a.m. rather than 2:30 p.m. Associate Unit Director Adrial Mitchell said, “When you’re scrambling in that situation of where is your child going to go, you have to go to work as a parent, so it's good the club is still open."

Mitchell says parents are grateful that they have the option and for kids well they have a blast. Membership at the club is $30 per child a year. They also serve meals to children.
