Police confirm the Omaha Bomb Squad detonated a live PVC pipe bomb in a city park Tuesday night.
Responders were called out to Seymour Smith Park, near 72nd & Harrison, around 4:30 p.m. Police say they found the pipe bomb in a wooded area, located near the skate park.
Bomb Squad technicians set up a 300 foot perimeter and detonated the bomb shortly after 6:00 p.m.
They say no matter what the device turns out to be, it's always treated as dangerous.
"It's a long walk, a long lonely walk when you go down on these devices, mentally you feel like as you're walking it's a draw bridge going down because you don't know what you're walking into," said Aaron Gurzich.
At this point, it's unclear how the bomb ended up in the park.
