Wednesday was a day of reverence for police and firefighters in the metro. Many departments gathered at the Holy Cross Catholic Church at 48th and Woolworth for a Blue Mass.
Along with other attendees like friends and family, they read scripture, sang songs of worship and took communion.
Leaders prayed for the safety of all police and firefighters and for those they protect.
Archbishop George Lucas said, "We really value the contribution that these men and women make to the welfare of our community. We’re all safe and enjoy more harmony in the community because of their good efforts.”
After the ceremony the crowd moved outside for a blessing of the emergency vehicles.
