The Heartland has remained unusually dry since late June, but a new weather system promises to bring a glimmer of hope for some beneficial rain.
A low pressure area dropping down from the northern high plains will likely trigger some scattered showers over the next 12 to 36 hours, and rain would certainly be a welcomed sight.
Omaha received a measly 0.44 inches of rain for the entire month of July which is over three inches below normal for the month. Then the month of August picked up where July left off, as Omaha's Eppley Airport is reporting over an inch rainfall deficit so far for August.
But the latest forecast looks encouraging for rain. Keep in mind that rainfall amounts may vary greatly throughout the area, however at least one model is indicating perhaps over an inch of rain by Thursday afternoon.
