Emotions were flowing Monday morning in a Sarpy County courtroom where Pamela Johnson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for assault and child abuse.
Prosecutors presented evidence that were contrary to Johnson’s claim that she dropped a 3-month-old child in her care in February 2010.
Johnson could have been sentenced to spend up to five years in prison. Her attorney asked for probation.
The victim, Evalee Johnsen, is now two years old. She still requires help that most girls her age do not need. The judge noted that the long-term effects of her injuries are not known.
He also noted that Johnson never took responsibility for the injuries the girl suffered.
Evalee's father, Jason, a member of the Air National Guard, was in Afghanistan when Evalee was born. He never saw his daughter until after she was injured.
