Deputies took a baby, hot and crying, from a van Monday evening when the outdoor temperature was eighty-six degrees.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says deputies were called to the parking lot of Super Saver in Council Bluffs at 7:20pm and found a 9-month-old baby girl in a van. The windows had been left cracked open, but the baby was hot and sweating. Danker said the deputies were able to get the little girl out of her infant restraint because a van door had not been locked.
The baby was taken to an air conditioned sheriff's cruiser and eventually turned over to human services for safe keeping.
The mother first told investigators she forgot the baby was in the van. Then she told them she had run into the store for cash and tomatoes for dinner.
30 year old Tiffany Tunney of Council Bluffs was lodged in jail for child endangerment.
