An Avoca, Iowa man has been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
Sergio Maldonado-Butler, 29, was sentenced Friday.
He has also been ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release after prison.
In August of 2013, authorities were called to a disturbance involving Maldonado-Butler. During the investigation they determined that he was required to register as a sexual offender based on a 2005 conviction for rape in the State of Oregon.
Maldonado-Butler entered a guilty plea to failing to register with the Pottawattamie County, Sheriff’s Office as required when he began residing in Avoca.
