The Waverly Senior Legion baseball team had to forfeit the Class B state championship game because three players were arrested and three others were cited Wednesday for minor in possession of alcohol after some mailboxes were vandalized.

Scottsbluff police arrested Adam Jorgensen, 18 and Kyle Debaets, 18, both of Waverly, and Jesse Maguire, 18 of Davey. Maguire was also arrested for destruction of property.

Dillon Benson, 16, and Calvin Yelkin, 17, both of Eagle, and Luke Sumovich, 18 of Waverly, were all cited.

Scottsbluff police say a woman saw one of the suspects hit her mailbox with a baseball bat. After police found the teens responsible they found the others drinking alcohol.

Waverly was supposed to play Hickman-Norris Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Class B Senior Championship game in Scottsbluff, but had to forfeit because they couldn't fill their roster.
