It is a scam Channel 6 News reported back in January that targeted the homeless. If a homeless person fell for it, he would end up in jail. Lincoln police have announced an arrest.
Police say a con artist was preying on the needs of homeless men. The men were asked to cash checks which turned out to be bogus. In exchange for cashing the checks, the homeless men would have a hotel room for a night and food from McDonald’s.
On Thursday, Lincoln police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Derrick N. Andrews of Decatur, Georgia. He was taken into custody on March 26. The scheme, dubbed Operation Homeless, was reported to police on two dates: January 25 & March 18.
Andrews was booked for three counts of second degree forgery.
