An armed robbery turns a quiet evening at work into a frightening ordeal for an Omaha convenience store Sunday night.
Around 8:30p.m. two men came into the Tobacco and Liqueor outlet near 108th and Maple. Armed with a handgun, they demanded money, cigarettes and alcohol.
Artun Gokcen, a clerk, spoke with Channel Six about the robbery.
“I felt real powerless last night. They just walked right in. And I couldn't really do anything,” says Gokcen.
During the incident, one of the robbers also looked at Gokcen's personal laptop and phone, but only took a few dollars from his wallet. They left the store moments later with a grocery bag full of stolen merchandise and cash.
“I was infuriated after they left. I was infuriated when he reached for my belongings. How he walked into the store thinking he could get anything he wanted. That's just not fair,” says Gokcen.
The incident has them reconsidering security such as only allowing people to be buzzed in after certain hours of the evening.
Just a couple hours earlier a similar situation at the tobacco hut at 49th and center. A man in his 50's pointed a gun at the clerk and got away with cash and cigarettes. No one was injured in either robbery, but for Gokcen it’s left lasting effects.
“I got up a few times last night just to check if somebody was around my house, just out of paranoia.”
