Apple Announces iPad Mini

Tuesday afternoon Apple revealed it's newest version of the iPad. It's a smaller version of it's iPad tablet computer and it starts at $329. The screen is about two-thirds the size of the current full-size model.

You can order the new iPad Mini on Friday Oct. 26 and Apple says they will begin shipping the Wi-Fi models on November 2nd.

The iPad mini weighs 0.68 pounds, half as much as the full-size iPad, and is as thin as a pencil.

The screen resolution is the same as the iPad 2, 1024 by 768 pixels, and a quarter of the resolution of the third-generation iPad.

Though many were expected the iPad Mini to cost less, it's twice the cost of the Amazon Kindle Fire, a competitor.

Apple also said it's upgrading its full-size iPad tablet, doubling the speed of the processor.

The fourth-generation iPad will have a better camera and work on more "LTE" wireless data networks around the world. Also a new addition, they are replacing the 30-pin dock connector (currently on iPhone 4 and 4s) with the new "Lightning" connector (the same as the iPhone 5).

The price of the new full-size iPad will stay the same as the previous version, starting at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only version with 16 gigabytes of memory.
