The Heartland Family Service Ruth K. Solomon Girls Center has
teamed up with the educational theatre company RESPECT for an artist-in-residency program and will host a final presentation on Friday, July 25.

RESPECT is a research-based, nonprofit organization that travels to schools and organizations across Nebraska and Iowa performing plays about bullying, relationships and violence prevention. Founded in 2000 by child psychologist Dr. Patricia Newman, the troupe has performed more than 2,000 plays for over 360,000 students.

Over the course of two weeks, RESPECT’s actor-educators worked with Solomon Girls in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Through the use of theatre activities, the girls learned to identify bullying behaviors and healthy strategies they can use if they are being bullied or if they see bullying of their peers.

Sessions also addressed developing positive body
image and healthy relationships. As a finale, the girls will share their own artisitc and theatrical presentations as their 2014 Summer Performance.

For more information about the Solomon Girls’ Summer Performance, contact RESPECT Training & Education

The presentation is free and will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church (6340 N. 30th Street, Omaha) from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, 2014.
