The John Atkinson Lung Cancer Foundation sponsored the event at the Cancer Survivor's park at 105th and Pacific.
Atkinson -- a non-smoker -- died in 2009 from lung cancer.
His wife, Lori, spoke to the crowd. "I am proud to share that the foundation we started three years ago -- has been able to provide 15 scholarships, totaling $20,000 to children around the United States who have lost a parent to lung cancer."
An oncologist also discussed progress doctors and researchers are seeing in treatment and detection.
