It's not too to return those over due library books in LaVista.

Until next Wednesday, the LaVista Public Library will be hosting “Amnesty Week”.

Anyone guilty of holding on to a checked out book too long can donate nonperishable food items and in exchange the fines will be waived.

City officials say it's a great way to help the shelves of books and food stay stocked.

"Obviously books are the foundation of what are library is, we want, if they are due back we want our books back. So it's a great way to give back to a community cause and accomplish that as well," Mitch Beaumont with the City of LaVista said.
