ATV laws passes in Weeping Water.
With the action by the Weeping Water City Council this week the operation of all-terrain vehicles will be legal on city streets in a couple of weeks reports the Cassgram.
As with the UTV ordinance passed in September, the ATV ordinance lays out the operating requirements and the registration process, and establishes penalties for violations. The regulations say ATVs can only be operated sunrise to sunset by those 18 years and older with a driver’s license. Insurance and muffler requirements, and ATV size limits are also spelled out.
There is a $25 registration fee. Registered ATVs will display a bright red sticker and must be equipped with a bicycle safety flag. The registration process can be completed now at city hall.
City Clerk Kay Gerdes said there have been five UTVs registered in the city since September.
She noted that at this week’s city council meeting there was an individual who asked about golf cart registration. The city council has not taken any action or made any directives about legalizing the operation of golf carts on city streets.
