Officials with Richardson County released a statement that a false alarm went out Sunday afternoon of an alleged emergency.
According to emergency staff at approximately 3:50 PM today many cellular customers within county received a Wireless Emergency Notification of an unknown emergency situation at Cooper Nuclear Station and to standby for more information. Richardson County Emergency Management was able to quickly verify with Cooper Nuclear Station that the plant was running under normal conditions and that no incident was taking place.
Richardson County Emergency Management was able to find out through Cooper Nuclear Station that this message was sent out by the National Weather Service in Omaha. At approximately 4:10 PM the National Weather Service sent out a second alert stating that the alert was sent out in error and apologized for any confusion.
