Accidental automatic calls reporting student absences have alarmed some parents in Hastings.
The district superintendent says a secretary at Longfellow Elementary School accidentally triggered the calls to all parents on the school list, telling them their children had not shown up at school on Wednesday morning.
Superintendent Craig Kautz says several parents called the school to inquire about their children, and about 75 parents went to the school to check on their children.
The school posted signs on the entrances to explain the mistake, and staffers also met parents at the doors. A second automated call was made to the parents, telling them to ignore the first call and apologizing for it.
