Sixteen-year-old Kylie Remmereid passed away after a horrible crash last week. Her father Todd is speaking out for the first time since losing his oldest daughter.

"My daughter's room is just above ours and it's... quiet," Todd Remmereid said.

Todd's life turned upside down on the night his daughter Kylie was heading out with two friends.

"They were going to eat dinner."

The three girls drove up a hill on State Street. Cassie Collier lost control and crashed her Volkswagen Beetle. Kylie did not survive.

"We got the call and we just couldn't believe it because they had just left," Remmereid said.

Todd wants us to remember Kylie as someone who always thought of others, and as a best friend to her younger sister.

"As they've gotten older, they've gotten closer. We realize there's going to be an empty spot in our hearts forever," Remmereid said.

Along with the support of the community, the family finds comfort in a book of poems Kylie left behind.

Todd says his daughter chose to live her life to the fullest from an early age, and he will always hang on to that.

"It's hard losing your daughter, your oldest child. And I cry a lot but I will be there for my family."

The Remmereids are also keeping in contact with the other girls' families. Samantha Stefes is back home. Cassidy Collier continues to recover in the hospital.

The Remmereids have been visiting her daily.

If you would like to help Kylie Remmereid's family, there is a fund set up at Bank of Bennington.

Todd says their family is grateful for the donations they have already received, including some from families who have also lost children.

Kona Grill's Village Pointe location will hold a fundraising event called "Team Cass," to help cover the Collier's medical expenses. The event kicks off December 6th at 5 p.m.

Friends of the girls are also selling bracelets to support the three families. The $3 bracelets read: "Watch over us."

Fundraiser organizers are working on making the bracelets readily available at multiple locations throughout the general area.
