A man was life-flighted to Omaha early Tuesday, following an ATV accident that left him alone and injured all night.

According to the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department, 30-year-old Robert Welchert Jr. III had been drinking before he decided to take an ATV out for a ride in the area of 216th and Fair View Road, in Sarpy County, Monday night.

Welchert was last seen by his co-workers at Midwest Pour Walls at 7:30 that night, he boss told Channel Six News.

However, Jeff Riddle with Midwest Powersports and Machine said Robby, as he is known, was helping him pull in 4-wheelers for the night as is often the case when Welchert gets off work from his other job.

But last night for some reason Riddle said, Welchert decided to take a Banshee ATV for a spin around 10:30 after the pair "drank a few beers" together. Riddle reported hearing the 30-year-old on the ATV for a short while; however, around midnight he got worried and started to look for Welchert.

According to the Sheriff's Department, when Robby couldn't be found, the search was called off, without notifying authorities. Tuesday morning when everyone returned for work, Riddle and his wife resumed the search when Robby's white flatbed pick up was still parked out front of the businesses and the ATV was missing.

Welchert was found on property owned by Mulhall's Nursery, several hundred feet away from Riddle's shop, about a quarter mile north of Fair View Road.

Welchert had flipped the ATV and suffered multiple injuries, including head trauma. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center via medical helicopter. Deputies said he was not wearing a helmet.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office said they are not pursuing DUI charges at this time because the incident apparently happened on private property.
