Two young men were wounded in a shooting Sunday afternoon in Omaha.
Police said between eight and 12 shots where fired, possibly from a passing vehicle, near 37th and Fowler around 3 p.m. Police said those who know the victims may have fired back at the car.
“A little freaky, but everyone is safe in the house,” said one resident, a father of two, who didn’t want to be identified.
“Knowing that if a stray bullet had come through the house and hit one of them, it's scary, that feeling going through you. I didn't think nothing of it because it sounded like it came from up the street, but by the time I came outside the fire truck, cops and ambulance were already here."
Both victims, hit in the leg, were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center and are expected to survive. Their names have not been released.
“This is like the first that anything like this has ever happened except for a couple of kids fighting, but that's about it. We will continue as we always do and just live one day at a time I guess.”
